Year 5 Visit to Dover Museum

On Tuesday, 14th May 2019 Year 5 went to visit Dover Museum.

Luckily, the weather was kind to us this time and we all arrived still dry.

The day began with an art activity: Making Tudor treasure chests out of clay. We all enjoyed  this and tried out various patterns to make the chests even prettier. The best part was, that we were allowed to take our creations back to school.

Next, a very nice lady, who works for the museum, told us all about a 3600 year old boat. We were amazed that the boat still existed after such a long time! Then, we watched a short film about the boat and how it was built by the Bronze Age inhabitants of Dover.

After meandering around the top floor of the museum, we were very happy when lunch time arrived.
Some of our boys were showing Miss Baylis how to 'floss' (she needs to keep working on it!), when Ian the Actor appeared. He took us to the 'round stage', where we played drama games, re-enacting Tudor times. We pretended to be cannon balls, to climb ships rigging and also enacted presenting newly discovered foods, like tomatoes and potatoes, to Queen Elizabeth I.

The day was a great success as we all had so much fun and also learned lots about history.

A big 'thank you' goes out to the people who supported us on this trip: Hazel Groves, Michelle Stothart, Miss Walker and Mrs Fellows; we could not have done it without them!
