Year 5 Visit to Fort Burgoyne May 2019

Fort Burgoyne

Yesterday, we walked up to Fort Burgoyne which is located opposite Dover Castle.
We battled the heavy rain and were relieved once we arrived at the fort.

Walking across the drawbridge, we saw the amzing sight of the fort, nestled into the hillside.

Our guides from Animate Arts welcomed us and began to show us around the fort.
We looked at soldier's and officers quarters, stables and even ventured deep into the lowest floors.

We saw evidence of the soldiers that once manned their positions in the fort, as an example by graffiti left on the walls.

We enjoyed the views across the area to Dover castle and also met a fox. Wildlife and plants are slowly taking over the old fort.

We left early as the weather was so cold and uncomfortable, but our artist friends accompanied us to school and we were able to take part in exciting arts activities!

What an interesting and inspiring excursion!
